Vicki McFarlandVicki McFarland

Reporter

Manor Journal reporter Vicki McFarland began her journalism career when she was on the newspaper and yearbook staff during her junior and senior years at John H. Reagan High School in Austin, Tx. Earning Bachelors and Masters degrees in Education from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas A&M University and at Texas State University gave her the skills she needed to write lesson plans, curriculum documents, personnel handbooks, press releases and newsletters to parents during her 28 years in public education. She served as a High School History and Government teacher, an elementary principal, curriculum director and assistant superintendent for human resources.

When she moved to Manor in 1986, the City of Manor had a population of 1,100 people, Manor Grocery in downtown Manor was the only grocery store and Hamilton Point was the only subdivision. Manor ISD had less than 1,000 students attending one elementary school, one junior high school and one high school.

Manor has certainly changed since 1986. Vicki is a community volunteer for several non-profit organizations, and she recently retired after serving 15 years as the Executive Director for the Manor Chamber of Commerce.
